Ultimate HD Resident Evil 4 coming to PC

Capcom announced today that nearly everyone’s favourite in the series, Resident Evil 4, will be re-released next month as a PC exclusive Ultimate HD Edition.

The previous 2007 PC edition was maligned for many different reasons, including native mouse support. On their press release, Capcom stated that a “complete visual overhaul has been performed to bring this revered title to the highest graphical quality ever. Fully optimized for the wide screen, texts have been sharpened and textures have been upgraded on characters, backgrounds and in-game objects.”

The game will run at 60 frames per second for the first time and offers everything from previous releases. It will be available across Europe at retail and on Steam globally. You can pre-order on Steam now, and if you do you’ll get a digital soundtrack and digital art book thrown in as well.

Resident Evil 4 : Ultimate HD Edition will be available on February 28.

Steam may soon allow you to share your games with friends

As Steam users will know you can’t share your downloaded games with friends, not in the way the console users can by simply lending them a disc. But this may be about to change, after three lines of code were discovered in the latest Steam client beta.

The lines of code in question are:

  • “SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicense_Title” “Shared game library”
  • “SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicenseLocked_OwnerText” “Just so you know, your games are currently in use by %borrower%. Playing now will send %borrower% a notice that it’s time to quit.”
  • “SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicenseLocked_BorrowerText” “This shared game is currently unavailable. Please try again later or buy this game for your own library.”

From that it appears that you will be able to let other Steam players borrow your games, and then take them back when you fancy.

What this means for publishers we don’t know, or whether if Steam will go ahead with it. But there is the possibility that Steam users will be able to share their games with other users, just like you can do with console games.
