Reboot of Terminator due June 2015

The press release for the reboot of Terminator has confirmed that Paramount, Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures have set a June 26th 2015 release date.

The film is intended to be the first past of a possible trilogy and will have Arnold Schwarznegger on board in some capacity, although the press release hasn’t stated what role he will playing.

Writers who have worked on Avatar and Drive Angry have been working on the script, and the studios are currently looking for a director.

With the North American rights of the franchise due to revert back to James Cameron in a few years, the companies are hopeful to get two movies out sooner rather than later.

PS4 to be dev-friendly like original PlayStation

Key system architect of the PS4, Mark Cerny, has claimed that Sony’s new console will be developer friendly.

Cerny has spent five years working on building the next-gen console and claims that the development time to create games will be 1-2 months for the PS4, the same as for the original PlayStation, compared to the average 6-12 months for the PS3.

Cerny said that in 2008 he sent a questionnaire for third parties to ask what features they wanted on future hardware, and found that most popular request was unified memory, which has been fulfilled in the PS4.

After speaking with more than thirty teams from around the world, he said the most popular request from developers was unified memory – a requirement which the PS4 team fulfilled.

This has enabled a straightforward approach, that gives “excellent day one performance” and will cut down on developing time to one or two months, theoretically making the system as developer friendly as the original – benefitting indie developers.

Ouya released in UK today

The Android console was released in the UK today, priced at £99.99

The console was funded by Kickstarter and raised $8.5 million, with creative backing from Square Enix, the makers of Final Fantasy III, which is available as a release title.

With the tech in place, existing Android developers can port their games to the Ouya easily. The developer toolkit is shipped with the console, so new game makers have a new option to try making their own game into a reality.

The specs are 8gig storage, HD graphics for TV ,1.7GHz Nvdia Tegra 3 quad-core chip with 1GB of RAM, the console also supports both WiFi and Ethernet.

Julie Uhrman, one of Ouya’s founders stated that “there will be a new Ouya every year, but the games will backwards compatible and tied to the user’s account, rather than the hardware itself.”

It’ll be interesting to see how well the Ouya does in the UK, and whether it’ll be around to stay.

Jurassic Park 4 said to have underwater dinosaurs

The upcoming sequel  is due to hit cinemas in 2015, and will reportedly feature underwater dinosaurs.

The latest installment is set on the original’s Isla Nublar and is said to feature a giant underwater beast that eats a great white shark, as well as the velociraptors and T-Rexes we all know and love from the earlier films.

Sam Neil has said recently that he won’t be reprising his role as Dr Alan Grant, which is a shame, but underwater dinosaurs certainly sounds interesting!

The film is expected to be shot in 3D and is to be directed by Colin Trevorrow, his first major full length motion picture.

World War Z to get sequel

The Brad Pitt zombie film ‘World War Z’ is due to get a sequel, following a $111.8million world wide box office in its opening weekend.

Paramount confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that they will be actively developing a sequel, following the film’s success so far as it earned $66million in the US alone.

Initially envisioned as a trilogy, the film has had a strong start so far, both commercially and critically, and that appears to be enough for the execs at Paramount to greenlight a second film, despite the $190million budget spent on the movie.

Steam may soon allow you to share your games with friends

As Steam users will know you can’t share your downloaded games with friends, not in the way the console users can by simply lending them a disc. But this may be about to change, after three lines of code were discovered in the latest Steam client beta.

The lines of code in question are:

  • “SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicense_Title” “Shared game library”
  • “SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicenseLocked_OwnerText” “Just so you know, your games are currently in use by %borrower%. Playing now will send %borrower% a notice that it’s time to quit.”
  • “SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicenseLocked_BorrowerText” “This shared game is currently unavailable. Please try again later or buy this game for your own library.”

From that it appears that you will be able to let other Steam players borrow your games, and then take them back when you fancy.

What this means for publishers we don’t know, or whether if Steam will go ahead with it. But there is the possibility that Steam users will be able to share their games with other users, just like you can do with console games.
