Lead designer of BioShock writing Logan’s Run remake

Lead designer on BioShock and System Shock 2, Kevin Levine is working on the script for the long in development remake of Logan’s Run.

The remake has been circling around Warner Bros. for years and has had different directors attached in the past, including Bryan Singer. At the moment its currently unclear who the studio has in mind to direct the film, but with Levine’s commercial success, possibly the film will still come to light.

Despite working on the project, Levine is still focussing on the downloadable content for BioShock Infinite in his day to day role at Irrational Games.

EA on why DICE is a perfect fit for Star Wars: Battlefront

EA Labels president Frank Gibeau spoke to IGN whilst at E3 about how Battlefield studio DICE is the perfect studio to make the hotly anticipated upcoming game.

“Battlefront is a vehicle experience, it’s a character experience. DICE has … been able to demonstrate through the Frostbite tech and through their design capabilities and talent that they can create these huge, epic set-piece wars. That’s kind of the dream of Battlefront. Hoth, the battle of Hoth. You’ve got space, you’ve got the surface, you’ve got infantry, you’ve got AT-ATs. That’s the table stakes that they come in with. They know how to do that. They’re really good at it.”

“They’re not just going to ape what we’ve seen in the past …They’re going to bring their own sensibilities and design ideas. We want to innovate. We want to try new things … From our perspective, it’s capturing that epic, Star Wars, all-out huge scale. That’s what we’ll go after.” Gibeau said.

A step in the virtual reality direction, Oculus Rift receives new funding

Following this year’s E3, the Oculus Rift has raised $16million via Spark Capital and Matrix Partners.

Oculus VR is working on their first virtual reality headset, designed for gamers to immerse themselves in their favourite games.

“Oculus began with a single mission: to put players inside the game,” Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey said in a statement. “This investment allows us to deliver immersive and affordable virtual reality to players everywhere.”

The company has previously hinted that they’re aiming to release their headset to consumers as early as 2014. They previously raised over $2 million for dev kits, which were distributed earlier this year.

My Nintendo News

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed during the E3 analyst briefing that the company acknowledges that Nintendo Land has failed to attract consumers to Wii U. Iwata said that Nintendo Land hasn’t fulfilled the same role as Wii Sports – which consumers flocked to play and subsequently purchased a Wii back in 2006. Iwata did say that Nintendo is going to release a variety of Wii U software which shows off how convenient and delightful it is to have the Wii U GamePad controller, and how it changes the gaming experience.

“Asymmetric gameplay” is one of the important elements which differentiate Wii U from other products. Thus, we have released “Nintendo Land” as the software to make consumers understand the value of asymmetric gameplay. In the United States, we bundled it with the Wii U “Deluxe Set” which is a higher-end model equipped with 32GB of memory. We have received a lot of…
